
24 Local Government officials graduate from QuantumNET Institute of Technology

24 Local Government officials celebrated their successful completion of an intensive Computer literacy training at a ceremony held
at the Paradise Suites Hotel today. The training was facillitated by the GAMWORKS agency in collaboration with QuantumNet Institute of Technology and was part of the Third Public Works Project of OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
During the 60 hour course, the 24 LGA students drawn from 8 area councils and municipalities were trained on components of the Microsoft Office 2003 software package and included Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Introduction to Microsoft Office 2007.
Permanent Secretary Abdoullahi Manneh, Department of State for Local Government, Lands and Religious Affairs, who deputised for
SoS Ismaila Sambou told the students that they should put the training to the betterment of their offices and the inhabitants of their respective regions. Mr. Manneh challenged the graduates to "think big" and use this training as a stepping stone to further their IT knowledge. PS Manneh also read a speech for Hon. Sambou in which the SOS praised both QuauntumNET and Gamworks for their continued support of his department of state and The Gambia Government in general.
The Director General of GAMWORKS Mr Ebrima Cham, gave a brief overview of the project. Mr. Cham also went on to explain how such trainings increase the capacitynot only of staff but of Local Government Authourities overall.
Speaking earlier, Mr Muhammed Jah, Managing Director of QuantumNET reafirmed the company's resolve to always be at the
forefront of service innovation. Mr. Jah told the gathering that the training will help participants to "manage and mobilise their
revenue resources through the collection, management and accounting of rates and taxes in the various area councils."
The ceremony was chaired by Mr Lassana Tunkara, QuantumNET Senior Manager Corporate Affairs, while Mr. Landing Fofana, one of
the graduates, delivered the vote of thanks.
